Goal update. Are you staying focused too?

Energy and persistence conquer all things. -Benjamin Franklin

Back in January I wrote about setting goals, rather than resolutions.   Are you on your way to achieving those goals?  I am well on my way towards mine and am feeling super energized.

Not only did I set a SMART goal to lose weight, I also spent time researching good health and attending seminars.  I just finished a detox and am on a rejuvenation program.   Yes, I am losing weight – 13 pounds already!   The bonus is that I also feel amazing!  The benefits of the detox are awesome.  This is the first time I have ever tried one and I know that I will be doing them twice a year going forward.

  • I feel vibrant and energized
  • My mind feels very clear – no cloudiness
  • My circulation has improved – liver, kidneys, blood
  • My stomach is flatter and not bloated
  • I am wide awake when I get up in the morning

Setting and planning the goal got me started.  Staying focused and doing additional research added a major plus to my plan.

What about you?  Are you staying focused on your goals?  If not, it is not to late to start again.  You can do it.  I know you can.  As Benjamin Franklin wrote “energy and persistence conquer all things”.  Be persistent, don’t give up and stay focused.  You will love the results and may even find a bonus like I did.

Go for it!

What are your goals for 2012?

Happy New Year

“We will open the book. Its pages are blank.

We are going to put words on them ourselves.

The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”

What are your goals for 2012?  The reason I ask “goals” instead of “resolutions” is that goals are more reachable if you plan them right.  Make some SMART goals this year.  With proper planning you can achieve your goals rather than just making resolutions that have no plans.  Resolutions are often just mere words.

SMART goals are specific, measurable, action oriented, realistic and time limited.  One of my goals this year is to lose 20 pounds by March 31st by exercising regularly, managing my diet and playing active games on my new Wii that I got for Christmas.   This is a SMART goal.

Specific – to lose weight

Measurable – 20 pounds

Action Oriented – exercising, diet, playing

Realistic – it can be done – it is not far fetched

Time limited – by March 31st.

Another one of my goals, or shall I say, the first chapter in my book of Opportunity, will be about writing more often and keeping my blog updated.  I am excited about this goal.  It will keep my mind active, my spirit motivated and will provide inspiration and motivation to others.  It will also provide some insightful reading for my granddaughters.  I often wish I had more information about my grandparents as I do not have much information nor pictures of them.  It would have been so neat to be able to read their writings and find out more about them.  I look at keeping my blog updated as a gift to my granddaughters and hopefully great grandchildren to follow.

What are you goals for 2012?  Make some SMART goals and get active.  You will be so thankful that you did.

Happy New Year.  May 2012 be filled with magic and may your first chapter, “Opportunity”, be an exciting one.

Be an Optimist

Make a Difference

You can make difference for someone in need – just by being a friend.

I volunteered as a Big Sister through Big Sisters of Peel and became a friend to a young girl.  We were friends for over 4 years.  Over time, for various reasons, she moved to another city and we lost touch.  Just recently, Sally (name changed for privacy reasons) found me through Facebook and we have reconnected, although not in person as she is living far away.

I asked Sally if she could share with me one or two things I had taught her and this was her reply.

“……….I would have to say that having you as a Big Sister was one of the most greatest experiences of my life. From having you in my life I gained a friend and a mother I had always longed for.  You taught me some of the most important things in life that have stuck with me till this day. You taught me self confidence with all your encouragement, and trust with all of your love and care, you taught me how to open my heart to people.  You are one of the most incredible, smart, loving, unselfish and funny person I have ever met.  You are a great mother and an even greater friend. Growing up I didn’t have much to learn from until I had met you. Even though we had drifted apart for a while, in my heart and thoughts you were always there.  You are till this day my biggest role model and from you I learned that I can be the best mother, woman and friend as I want to be..I want to thank you for your time and love that you gave to me and you should be aware of how much of an impact you had in my life..I love you now and always will Joan you are exactly what every little sister would want and deserves…….

WOW - I had no idea that I had made that much impact.  I am touched and blessed to have had Sally as my friend.  She too taught me a lot.  I can’t wait to have the chance to see her again, share our wonderful memories and catch up.

Sometimes, you never know what impact you can have on someone.

You too can make a difference.  Consider being a Big Sister or a Big Brother.  There are many children on the waiting list waiting to be matched with a friend.   If you do not have the time, perhaps you know someone who does.  Let them know about this opportunity to Make a Difference.
